Plainspoken is a Kentuckyism that means you tell it like it is. It means that you are direct, candid and authentic. I try hard to be plainspoken. I was raised in Kentucky, and no matter where I live, I will always be a Kentucky girl. Thus the title Plainspoken Mama.
I am the mama of two rascally but adorable kids. I am a writer, blogger, and lover of words big and small. Kids, food, home, books, and photos are what get me going in the morning. Art and getting outside too.
Virginia Woolf cleverly wrote: “Language is wine upon the lips.” Language has the power to heal, to save, to intoxicate. I work at crafting words into things that will, hopefully, take on a life of their own, and mean something to other people.
As for the nitty gritty, I have an MA in English and an MFA in Creative Writing. I have worked as an educator, a public relations specialist, and a sales rep in the natural foods industry.
I thought that to be a good writer, I needed to experience life in different ways. When I quit work to stay home with my first child, I realized that all I needed was right in front of me.
